sewandtellfridaysAnother week has come and gone and many things have been accomplished in my world. Tonight after work, I did some shopping at Walmart, made a trip to Joann's to buy fabric and embroidery floss at an AWESOME sale and then made it to my boxing class. I also spent some time with the family after class for some needed R & R. What a nice way to end a demanding work week! Such fun! And tomorrow morning, I have a trip planned to check out a local quilt shop that I have not been too before. Looking forward to the adventure!

This week I made quite a demanding block for my Dear Diary redwork quilt. I love it because it is a conglomeration of sew many different ideas. And I took lots and lots of photos! YAY!

redwork10a

Here is the picture of the entire block. The free pattern can be found HERE at Kaaren's website, the painted quilt.

I changed the pattern a bit to make it fit into a 6" quilt block.

The top of the block has my initials and the year.

You know me, I have to make wach and every design somehow mine :)

I hope that you like the block as much as I do!

Originally the pattern was part of a tutorial for a needlecase. Maybe I need to make one of those one of these days as well!! Thanks Kaaren for such a adorable pattern!

I also have a NEW addiction! The mug rug.

There is a swap on my Seasons Yahoo group and I made this mug rug for my partner, Sharon. I need to figure out what to send with the mug rug. Maybe some cookies and Starbucks hot cocoa! I am going to post the package on Monday.

I love the pink/brown fabric combo!

I used a pattern from Jenny at elefantz.com for the center embroidery!

BlueberrySugarSpice-bundle-200

My fabric purchases this week were great. I fell in love with this Blueberry Sugar and Spice fabric! I bought some charm packs and a Jelly roll from the Fat Quarter shop! I am going to use it to start my Birdie Stitches BOM! Can't wait to start this project!!!

blueberryfabric4

Here is my purchase! I am really excited about this one because it is an AWESOME special treat! I don't treat myself very often, but this is BETTER than chocolate! And there are not very many things that I consider better than chocolate!

flossnewcolors

I treated myself to some new floss! Yummy!!!

flossvariegated

I treasure variegated threads. So I bought this pack for myself. I am still in search of some 4215.... the variegated blue to pink one. I have not been able to find more of that and I used all I had :(

floss-lots1

And then there is this bunch of random skeins that I picked out. I am on a mission to have one skein of each available color. I am not sure why.... but it just seems like a good idea! LOL!

Well I have lots of things to work on and lots of new inspirations! That ought to keep me busy for at least another week. And tomorrow it is off to the quilt store. I wonder what goodies are in store for me there!!!!

Have a great weekend and may you find peace in the piecing of a quilt!!!

Take care! Hugs!

sewandtellfridaysWe have made it around again to another Sew and Tell Friday. I do love Fridays, I think more than any other day of the week. So much to look forward to ... especially since most of us get our crafting and sewing time on the weekend. I envy those gals who do not work outside of the home. They certainly have more time to sew and craft than those of us who do the 40 hour grind every week to make ends meet.

I have been successful in managing my sewing time well this week, if I do say so myself and give myself a pat on the back. I have kept up with the stitching on my Dear Diary Redwork quilt. I have religiously made one block per week as I said I would! Stitching at lunch time at work has been a nice and relaxing break. Today the weather was so balmy that I was able to sit outside in the sun and stitch and then I had some soup and salad for lunch! Nutritious and delicious!!! This week I stitched up this block:

redworkblock9a

I love this block. I stitched it because it snowed in Southern California last weekend. Unbelievable! It even snowed in Burbank, California. And it was the first time that it had snowed in Burbank in 62 years. Wow! It was cold in Chatsworth too.... but I guess the conditions were not ideal for snow!

Here is a close up of the snow men.....

redworkblock9b

The baby snow man is sew cute!

The free pattern is available at homeberries.com. There are lots of really neat stitchery freebies on this site! I encourage you to check it out when you have a chance!

Here is a photo of the snow in front of a very cool old house. I love this photo!

Wish it were mine!

Last weekend I worked on the setting for my version of Jenny's Give Thanks BOW (Block of Whenever she feels like it! LOL). I love the little 4" stitcheries because they come together in no time at all. It is easy to finish one while watching a movie in an evening. I have stitched each block so far and I will set them in this really awesome scrappy happy heart setting! There are lots of photos because I really really am in love with it!

Here is the entire block showing the little house embroidery block and the little shabby roses embroidered on a white tone on tone fabric!

Here is a close up of the applique scrappy heart!

Not perfect.... but it will do!

givethanks1c

Here is a close up of the flying geese.

I love the inspiration fabric with all the little circles. I have to go to Joann's and buy more!

givethanks1d

Close up the the shabby roses I added... they are totally Jenny!

givethanks1e

And another close up of the inspiraiton fabric and the flying geese!!!!

This part of the block really is my favorite!

I chose hearts because the BOM is all about the things we are thankful for from the bottom of our hearts. I am not sure how many blocks there will be total, but I will stitch them all at least once for my full size quilt and another set to go into my Dear Diary Redwork quilt. I am all about focusing on how thankful I am in 2011. I will probably even add a few blocks of my own to round out the year once I see all that Jenny has in store!

I am excited about this one!

Can you tell?

Then I will have to figure out how I will stitch up the Give Thanks words and the heart applique.... but I will probably leave that until the end of the journey so I make sure i get it just right!

I also stitched up BlockOne of the Home Sweet Home BOM from the Pacific Patchwork blog. You can find the free pattern for this BOM here. I have to finish the piecing around the stitched block this weekend. I will have to post a photo of this block when it is done. I will use an assortment of brown and pink fabrics for this BOM.

I also made this beautiful pink MUG HUG also from a pattern and tutorial on Jenny's website. I really love the way this cutie turned out and I will be making a few sets of mug hugs and mug rugs for birthday gifts. I ♥ polka dots, so maybe I will buy some more polka dot fabric and make a set in every color! Now I need to go to Walmart and buy some mugs to include with my gifts.

pinkmughug1

I like the way the polka dot ribbon coordinates with the fabric!

pinkmughug2

I love the quilting on this small quilt!

pinkmughug3

The design is so me!!!!

pinkmughug4

It is going to look so awesome tied to a big white mug with a matching mug rug :)

This weekend I will also be working on a mug rug for a swap in my Yahoo group. The partners are supposed to be assigned this weekend. I want my partner's name to be stitched in chain stitch on the little quilt, so I need to get my partner assignment before I complete the project. I won't be able to post a photo of the finished project until after my partner receives it because I want it to be a surprise!!!

I really feel like I am getting back into the creative swing. I was feeling out of it and kind of in a funk for awhile because I had moved, downsized and all that jazz... but the sewing mojo is returning. Gradually. What do you do when you feel if you have lost your sewing inspiration? I would love it if you left me a comment with your suggestions!

I hope everyone has a happy and productive weekend.

Happy stitching!!!
