sewandtellfridaysI am finally back from a very long and much needed vacation!!! I cannot believe that it has been so long since I posted on my blog! Evidently I was very busy preparing for my vacation early in February and did not have a chance to post before I left California to see my sweetheart in Alabama. It was so nice to have a break from everything in my life and all of my responsibility. I enjoyed the time away... just being able to relax and enjoy time with my BF. Since I relax by stitching, I made progress on several of my projects..... at least the hand stitching projects. So over the next week, I will post the things I embroidered while on vacation.

In tonight's post, I will feature my progress on my Dear Diary 2011 redwork quilt. I am making one redowrk embroidery block for each week of 2011 and at the end of the year I will assemble them into a wonderful red and white quilt. Here are my newest blocks from the past few weeks.....

redworkblock5a

I love the cute little birdie in this block!

The free pattern for this block is available at Gail Pan Designs.

In early February, most of the people I know from blogland were being inundated with snow and everyone was posting pictures of it and darn! I wanted some too! So I stitched up this cutie. I was enjoying the nice weather in sunny Southern California, however! LOL!

redworkblock5c

The bird is just adorable and the design so unique!

redworkblock5d

The trees are adorable too!

If you know what blog the pattern came from, please leave a comment so everyone knows where they can get it!

redworkblock6a

Next I stitched a version of the Give Thanks BOM part one from Jenny of Elefantz. I love this design. I made the design larger and worked it into a 6 inch block for my redwork quilt. Hope Jenny doesn't mind!

redworkblock6b

Here is a close up of my chain stitch (which is improving by the way) and my blanket stitch around the appliqued heart. Love it!

redworkblock7a

I stitched this block for the week of Valentine's Day! It was so nice to spend that day with my sweetie! And I just love this block. The free pattern can be found at Homeberries. There are tons of wonderful free patterns on this website. If you love to stitch, it is a great resource. I will be stitching more from this site soon!

redworkblock7b

I ♥ all the little heart details in the design.

redworkblock7c

Primitive and very cute!

I ♥ the hearts that make up the leaves of the trees!

redworkblock8a

This block is also from the Give Thanks BOM. I stitched it because I was returning home from my trip and I was very happy to be home with my family. As Judy Garland says in the Wizard of Oz, "There is no place like home". No matter where you go, it is always nice to return home to your own life and your own comfy bed!!!

I also did some stitching on a couple of other BOMS and worked on a few UFO's and I will be posting again soon so you can see how much I got done. I stitched during the plane trip back and forth, so I got alot accomplished.

I also hope that this weekend will be extra productive because rain is expected most of the weekend. So it will be nice to drink some wonderful hot tea, sew and stay inside. I am planning some real quality time with my sewing machine.

I hope you are all well out there in blogland and staying dry!

Piece til your heart's content!

sewandtellfridaysAnother week has come and gone and the birthday celebrations have finally ended! And that is a good thing because I was not eating as well as I should have during that time. I need to make a few changes in that department. I did exercise this week as I should have though and there will be more exercise this weekend. I will be working outside in the sunshine.....my garden awaits!!!

This week I had a few cute finishes. On Monday I posted the apron that I made in response to Jenny's January Cinderella challenge. Jenny featured the apron in her sew and tell HERE. I love the fabric and I love the colors!! Funny how I love turquoise but the color is not in the decor of my home.

Thanks Jenny for featuring my work.

I also worked on this gorgeous block for my Dear Diary redwork quilt.

I found the free pattern for the stitchery on the website HERE. I changed it a bit. I love the artistry by this artist. The design is actually posted on a coloring page, but I traced it to fabric and stitched it because I love the little birdie and the flowers. I have noticed that each of my blocks so far this year has included a bird!

Here is a close up of the flowers.

.....and a close up of the birdie!

redworkblock4-004

....and some more flower detail! Such fun to stitch!

I have to say that this block took a long time because of all the detail.

But I did finish it in a week with a bit of stitching each and every day!

Wow! I am displaying such dedication! LOL!

birthdayflowers1

Here are the beautiful flowers I received from my co-workers for my birthday. They were on my desk all week and then I brought them home and put them on the dining room table. Awesome!

orchid1

Here is the orchid that I received as a gift from my friend Kat! Thanks Kat!

sewcutesign1

I received this sign to hang up in my sewing room from my girlfriend Norma!

I gave her my Daisy Do quilt for Christmas! Lucky girl!

I ♥ the sign!

Sew cute!

cheapdatebottle1

I got this bottle of wine from my brother-in-law.

He has a great sense of humor!

cheapdatebottle2

Here is the label from the back of the bottle!

fabricfromsusan

I received this stack of blue and green fabrics from my quilty friend Susan from Australia. We met because we each have a blog and every now and again we swap stuff! These luscious fabrics have me just drooling with excitement and I just can't wait to start incorporating them into my quilt.

frogtapemeasure1

I also received this totally adorable frog tape measure from Susan. It is sew cool. To retract the tape you push frog's mouth. Incredible! And Susan sent candy too! YAY!

Susan, you totally rock :). You made my day and you make me smile. You should stop on over and visit Susan's blog that you can find HERE. Susan has committed herself to finishing lots of UFO's this year and wow! So far, she has finished more than 5! I am impressed, Susan!

Well, I am off to start tracing stitcheries for Jenny's BOM "Give Thanks". I want to work on it this week and hopefully, I can get it finished soon.

Happy stitching y'all!
