"Celebrate the ordinary, extraordinary, and everything in between in 2010!"

During my web searches online, I happened to run across a blog written by Laura West Kong called "Adventures of a Quilting Diva". You can find Laura's blog here

Laura was inspired by an article she had read in the May 1997 issue of Threads Magazine written by Nancy Halpern entitled "Quilting Day by Day". In the article, Nancy told the story of her daily quilt journal that she had made in 1990. Nancy made one quilt block by the end of each day even if it was to cut a single piece of fabric to represent that specific day. She also kept a daily journal relating to her quilt.

I have read Laura's blog religiously and she has inspired me with her ingenuity and creativity. I have embarked on this epic Dear Dairy Quilt Journey myself in 2010. I started on April 1st. Each and every day I make a 3" quilt block which I will incorporate into a large quilt at the end of the year.... depending of course on how many quilt blocks I end up making! I must admit that it is quite a challenge to come up with a new idea each day on what to make ... to find the fabric and actually construct the block by midnight! And I have used so many different techniques on my blocks including traditional quilt block piecing, paper piecing, applique, embroidery, bead embroidery.... and the list goes on. Sometimes, I am inspired by something that happened that particular day or that week ... or I am inspired by a random thought or dream ...  and sometimes I just create something absolutely off the wall! I have even surprised myself with some of the ideas that have popped into my head!

My inspiration: "One quilt block per day, inspired by each day’s activities. Sketched, sewn and quilted each day."  Thanks for the idea, Laura! Wish me luck!

Many photos of my blocks are posted here. Please come back and visit here throughout 2010 as  I will continue to post my 2010 Dear Dairy progress for you to see.
